About fundU
A direct lender for New Zealand business
fundU lends to Kiwi businesses against New Zealand property. We're the lender — not a broker, not a comparison site — so you deal directly with the people who make the decision.
We are a lender, not a matching service
fundU assesses and funds its own loans. When you enquire, your details aren't sprayed across a panel of lenders and you don't wait for a broker to hear back from someone else's credit committee. You talk to our lending team, our credit team makes the call, and we fund the loan.
That direct model is the whole point. It means clear responsibility, straight answers and speed. When a business owner has an IRD deadline, a supplier waiting or a contract that starts next week, being able to say "yes, here's how" on the first call matters.
What we fund
We provide business loans from $20,000 to $1m, secured against New Zealand property — the owner's home, an investment property, commercial or industrial premises, and some land. We lend by first mortgage or second mortgage, so you can keep your bank loan in place if that suits you.
- Paying out IRD debt — GST, PAYE, income tax and provisional tax
- Working capital, stock and cash flow gaps
- Taking on bigger contracts, new sites and expansion
- Equipment, vehicles and fit-outs
- Refinancing expensive short-term debt
- Buying a business or commercial property
- Bridging a sale, settlement or refinance
Why a scenario is more than a credit score
Banks run applications through a matrix. If one box doesn't tick — a default from years ago, an IRD arrangement, a business that's only been trading eight months — the answer is often no, however strong the rest of the picture. We look at the whole story: the property, the reason for borrowing, the timing and a realistic way to repay. A past setback can be explained, and often is.
Good businesses deserve a fair go. Plenty of owners who call us have more work than ever — they're just waiting on the money.
How we work
Enquiring takes a couple of minutes and doesn't affect your credit score. A lending specialist calls you back to understand what you need. If the scenario fits, we arrange a valuation and our lawyers work with yours to document the loan. Because there's no one else in the chain, funding can happen in as little as 24 hours once approved in some cases. See the full process.
The story behind the name
Look closely at the "U" in fundU and you'll see a smile — two dots above a curve. It's the look on a client's face once the funding lands. It's also two people in conversation: our lender and you. Read the story behind the name.
